TCC 1st X1 vs Great Brickhill (Away)

The 1st’s on the back of a disappointing result last week, were anticipating sunshine, big hitting and a big tea, but didn’t really see much of any until the sun appeared later in the day.

After a few late arrivals, we had the usual Weymo diving display during the warm up and Goody tossed up. Winning the toss (yes winning) for the 1st time this season, he elected to field.

After some straight to the point words of wisdom from dad, the senior player, basically bowl straight and expect to be slapped around by Nelson, we took the field.

Goody changed things around and opened with Weymo and Nick. Great decision as Nick explained he can only bowl with a round ball!!

Nelson and Co did their norm and hit the ball hard but were kept under control by the pace and accuracy of the new opening couple.

Lutto replaced Weymo and had success in the safe hands of Jordan. Nick having had both openers a pickle, bowled Critchley and then had Nelson knick off, who was caught well behind by the skipper.

Dad played his part with a tidy spell (3-12) and then Charlie took his glory dive like de Gea, to catch div 1’s leading scorer and TCC regular Dougie, Brickhill scratched along to set a unimpressive 190.

The once legendary Brickhill tea wasn’t up to the old standard with only a selection of sarnies, Indian bites and a few sweet nibbles (ohh and an untouched bowl of cous cous).

The sun made an appearance and Tidd also started brightly with Coops (26) making it look easy. Amongst all the verbal nonsense Brickhill were throwing at us, Archie fell and with Goody and Shrew not really getting set, we were suddenly 70-4.

Charlie (31) batted with the maturity of Fudge and was joined by Nick (56) the 2nd oldest player. They settled the ship. The angry youngster (me 32) joined Nick and continued steadiness and used my free hit well, striking the clubhouse with relative ease holding my shape well (Nick!!).

With 13 needed, I fell to the spinner and then Nick LBW. A nervous Lutto kept his cool and Neil finished the match off with a text book cut, straight past points head, to secure a well-deserved win over a normally tricky Brickhill side. Great team performance and a generous jug from the opposition helped us celebrate.
