Tiddington Girls U13 vs Aston Rowant
Tuesday 21st July 2020
Aston Rowant were the opposition for our first ever girls U13 hard ball match on Tuesday. The format was 8-a-side pairs batting and all the girls had the opportunity to perform with bat and ball. Both teams had players with a range of experience from Under 13 County players to those playing their first game of hard ball.
Rowant batted first and accurate bowling saw our team pick up regular wickets, preventing the opposition from building a big total. The wickets were shared around the team with Edie-May and Alice both taking two each and a direct-hit run out from Emma T adding another.
In Tiddington’s innings everyone made a contribution and we only lost two wickets in our 20 overs, with Martha making 30 to top-score. Most impressive was the running between the wickets from all our players, with lots of quick singles and ones turned into twos. This is often a weakness at this level but the girls’ positive approach allowed us to pass the Rowant total and push on to a big score by the end of our overs.
All the girls played well but a special mention goes to Milla, our youngest player, who took a wicket and scored runs in her first ever game of hard ball cricket.
Thank you to our friends at Rowant for bringing a talented team of girls along and playing the game in a great spirit. Thank you also to the many parents from both teams who were there to support. We hope to have a return fixture later in the season.
Scores: Aston Rowant – 156 (8 wickets), Tiddington – 245 (2 wickets).
Both teams batted for 20 eight-ball overs, starting on 100 runs and deducting 5 runs per wicket.
